Robert Glover Limited combines a life-long passion and enthusiasm for vintage motoring with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of both the social and competition history of the motorcar.

Decades of experience within the vintage motoring industry at an international level ensure that Robert Glover Limited is able, willing and qualified to provide clients with advice and opinion to enable informed decisions with regard to restoration, acquisition, events and collection management.

The company works on strong long-term relationships both nationally and overseas to further its reputation for integrity and enthusiasm. Well-known for dedication to the use and enjoyment of veteran, vintage and post-vintage thoroughbred motorcars in every field, Robert Glover Limited leverages an extensive network to ensure a professional, discreet and enjoyable experience.

Services

A key focus of the business is to assist collectors and enthusiasts with the restoration and research of historically significant and original vintage motorcars. With a valuable network of incredibly talented and reliable restoration specialists and historians at hand, projects are managed from commencement to completion. By liaising with the suppliers and communicating vital information back to the client, restoration project management not only saves the owner a vast amount of time, but also ensures that the end result is as it should be. Decades of historical research and countless hours behind the wheel of vintage motorcars provides an important understanding that the historical integrity of the motorcar can be retained, whilst it remains useable and enjoyable to drive.

Advice on all aspects of acquisition is offered. Be it a particular marque and model of interest or even an individual motorcar that may have a specific family related or competition history that is of interest to you, inspections of motorcars are carried out all over the world. With the knowledge, experience and ability to highlight the individual benefits and history of each motorcar an opinion as to the provenance, physical originality, condition and fair market value of the motorcar in question are all provided. N.B. The charge for this service is not commission based, but on pre-agreed fees relating to time and travel ensuring no conflict of interest throughout the process.

A network of knowledgeable and tenacious historians assist in finding period photographs, making family connections and generally obtaining the history of your motorcar. This not only can add value to the motorcar, but is incredibly rewarding and is certainly of vital importance during the restoration process.

Buying at auction

Buying at auction can be a nerve wracking experience but needn’t be. With experience of both sides of the process from within a top-flight international auction house, assistance is provided from initial inspection of the motorcar to the bidding process itself. Further help is offered after the auction with logistics and project management where required.

Selling through auction

Selling through auction can be an excellent way to achieve a result within a specified time-frame. In the case of a deceased estate it can also be a viable way for an executor to show that fair market value has been established in a public arena. In order to ensure the best result is achieved it is important to ensure that the car is presented properly, and that the history and historical photographs are also supplied to the auction company. We can assist with the whole process from negotiating terms with an auction company to ensuring the car presents well in catalogue descriptions, both online and printed, as well as liaising with auction staff on delivery logistics and feedback on the day. With a decade of auction experience Robert Glover Limited understands the needs of the customer but also the needs of the auction company to secure the best result for all.

Whether the storage of the motorcar is at home or with a trusted company, the way in which a vintage motorcar is stored is of vital importance. Prevention is so much cheaper and easier than cure so we work with you and storage companies to ensure that cars are put away properly and re-commissioned prior to use, particularly if they will not be used for long periods of time.

We arrange national and international covered transport and offer advice on international logistics with regard to the transport itself, insurance and any temporary or permanent tax implications.

Having taken part in numerous motoring events as far afield as Australia, New Zealand, Argentina and America, Robert Glover Limited is well placed to offer friendly advice on what events may suit the motorcars you already own or what motorcars suit and are eligible for, the events in which you wish to partake in future.

The enjoyment of vintage motorcar ownership is significantly enhanced by its use on the road or track. Centre throttle, crash gearboxes, pre-selectors, transmission brakes, tiller steering etc. all provide hurdles but should not prevent enjoyment. Indeed, mastering a crash gearbox, and a perfect heal and toe down change with a centre throttle is one of the most rewarding driving experiences one can enjoy. The private test tracks we have access to provide a safe environment in which to learn away from main stream traffic.

Valuations for the purposes of insurance and probate are offered.

Robert Glover

As is so often the case, Robert’s father inspired his initial passion and enthusiasm for vintage motoring. From a very early age Robert attended motoring events in his father’s Alvis 12/50 and Vauxhall 30-98 and has participated in almost all forms of historic motorsport since.

With a solid understanding of vintage sports and racing cars, Robert joined the international auctioneer Bonhams in 2003, having completed a marketing degree at Manchester University. The various roles he undertook further developed his knowledge and interest in motorcars from other eras and motoring disciplines. He managed the sale of Veteran, Edwardian and Post-Vintage Thoroughbreds as well as Sports-Racing and Grand Prix cars from all eras including a number of high-profile single owner collections.

Having carried out the role of motorcar specialist and worked at numerous high-profile auction events in the UK, including those held at Goodwood, he headed up Bonhams’ motoring division in Australia for five years. Whilst in Australia he set up the Bonhams Australian subsidiary company working closely with Robert Brooks and with him presided over some of the largest and most significant auctions ever held in the southern hemisphere. Robert has both attended and worked at many USA-based auctions and events.  On returning to Europe, Robert carried out the role of “Directeur Commercial” for Bonhams Europe, based in Paris, managing the complicated logistics of the mainland motoring auctions. Working with clients, staff and suppliers conversing in both French and English, he was responsible for consigning cars, managing collections and organising events in France, Germany and Monaco.

These experiences together with over 8 years of running his own business have resulted in an extensive network of international clients and suppliers as well as the invaluable knowledge of the whereabouts of many of the world’s most desirable and rare cars and their associated commercial values. Robert attends many international motoring events and is always keen to promote the use and enjoyment of older motorcars among the younger generations.
